As a general rule, parents in 2019 tend to be a fair bit more lenient and far less strict than they were generations ago. It can often feel like there is less of an emphasis on helping out around the house, speaking to one's elders with respect, being courteous to the opposite sex, and earning your keep.
But can you remember the first time your parents made you pay for your own dinner? I can, and I quickly realised that my mom and dad wouldn't be around forever to cover the bills.
Now, one young mother-of-two has been praised for her methods of teaching her son all about respect, manners, and the concept of earning money for hard work.

Nikkole Paulun, who was 16 when she gave birth to her son Lyle Drummonds, didn't have the best of experiences in her past relationships. She even goes as far as to say she was "abused" and "treated like c**p in the past".
According to the 22-year-old, it's "never too early to teach your child how to properly respect others, especially women."

In fact, Paulun was determined to teach her son these important life lessons in the hope that he eventually grows up to be a decent member of society.
So the doting mother, who starred in MTV's 16 and Pregnant, set up a monthly routine for herself and her six-year-old - and it has since garnered Paulun a lot of praise from fellow parents.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Paulun explained how she goes about teaching her son important life lessons.
The post has since received over 140,000 likes and 56,000 shares as parents from up and down the country rushed to praise the young mom.
"Once a month, my 6-year-old son takes me out on a dinner date. He opens doors for me, pulls out my chair, talks about his day & asks me how mine was, pays the bill with money he earned by doing chores, and even tips the waiter/waitress.
"By doing this, I am teaching him how to treat a lady & how to take her on a proper date. How to show that he respects the woman he loves (right now that would be Mommy). We put our phone and iPad away (except to take this photo) and sit and talk to each other about our days, things we want to do, etc.
"I’m teaching him proper table manners and that it’s rude to sit on your phone on a date with your mom or with anyone else. He learns the value of money and how to manage it. He learns how to do math as we add up what we want and make sure we have 15% of it to leave for a tip. Yes, he is young but I believe this is something he should learn now. It’s never too early to teach your child how to properly respect others, especially women.
"As a woman who has been abused & treated like crap in the past, it’s extremely important to me that I teach my son how to show respect. Too many men these days have no idea how to treat women or how to take them on a nice date.
"It’s nice to know my son won’t be one of them."

It's pretty commendable that such a young mother has gone to such lengths to ensure her little boy grows up to be the best possible man he can be.
Well done, Nikkole Paulun - I'm sure you will one day reap the benefits of your efforts!
