Fire has been always been an integral element of human life. Since the dawn of time, the human species has depended on the hot red flames for survival. Of course, in modern times our reliance on fire has, for want of a better word, extinguished.
As a result of the technology boom, we no longer need fire to keep warm, to cook our food or to provide light. The skills our ancestors taught themselves millions of years ago are now surplus. But they needn't be...

Fire, when used responsibly, is still an incredibly valuable tool. Not only that, but it has always carried a feeling of tradition, as well as being a great form of entertainment (again, when used in the right way).
For example, every November 5, England is lit up by thousands of fires across the country as people celebrate Bonfire Night, a tradition which began with the capture of Guy Fawkes in 1605 after his attempt to assassinate King James I using a stash of gunpowder hidden under the House of Lords was foiled.

In addition, fire is a prominent part of many cultural ceremonies, such as Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. And every year, more than 65,000 people attend Burning Man Festival in the Nevada desert where they worship a colossal effigy as it burns to a crisp.

The point I am trying to make is that fire provides a great focal point for any social event (again, when used in the correct manner) and it can truly light up a party - pun intended.
In order to incorporate fire into your festivities in a safe way, you'd need to invest in a fire pit. However, if you were to buy one online you are guaranteed to spend upwards of $100 for a fire pit average in appearance. For an impressive pit, you'd have to spend the best part of $500 - $1,000.

But, if you were to make it yourself, you'd only have to spend a few bucks. Not only that, but you get the priceless privilege of being able to proudly say that you made it with your very own hands.

For less than $100, you can make a fire pit just like this:
You don't necessarily need to be a DIY expert in order to manage this project, but you do need to understand the basic dangers of fire to enable you to build a pit that won't be dangerous in any way. For example, you will need to make sure your pit has sufficient ventilation in order to ignite the flames and provide an outlet for the heat.

So, once you have brushed up on how to ensure your pit is protected, grab some marshmallows and head on outside!
