PUZZLE CRAFTS
Fun ways to make a puzzle from scratch!
Photo Sliding Puzzle
Credit: Jungle Creations
You will need:
- Cardboard
- Scalpel
- Printed photo
- Glue
- Cutting mat
Method:
- Begin by placing the photo over the cardboard to work out how big you want the border to be (trim down the cardboard if necessary).
- Trace around the photo and then using a cutting mat and scalpel, cut out the traced section, leaving you with a frame.
- Use the piece you cut out to stick the photo onto.
- Cut the photo into a square grid and leave to one side.
TOP TIP: Cut off the corners to help the photos move around easier.
- Use the outside of the frame to trace around onto another piece of card, and cut out. This will be your base.
- Cut strips of card and stick onto the base, around where the photo will go.
- Now stick the frame on top.
- Finally, place the photo grid inside, leaving one out. Make sure they all fit and can move around easily.
- Now you can enjoy figuring out the sliding puzzle!

You will need:
- Coloured foam sheets
- Scissors
- Letter Stickers
- Pencil
- A3 white card
Method:
- Start by drawing a snake onto A3 card (long enough to fit the alphabet in).
- Cut out the drawing.
- Draw puzzle shapes on the snake for each letter of the alphabet.
- Cut out these shapes.
- Then start to trace them each onto different coloured foam sheets and cut them out.
- They should all fit together nicely to create the whole snake!
- Now start to stick on the letters, going from A to Z.
- The puzzle is now done for kids to enjoy and use as a fun learning tool at the same time!
Fish Puzzle

You will need:
- White foam board
- Mermaid paper-craft sheets
- Scalpel
- Cutting mat
- Pencil
- Glue
Method:
- Draw a fish shape onto a piece of foam board.
- Using a scalpel (adults only!), carefully cut out the fish shape on top of a cutting mat.
TOP TIP: Make sure to keep a hold of the outside cutout of the fish. You will need this later!
- Draw shapes onto the fish in sections.
- Cut these out with a scalpel.
- Grab a hold of the different styles of mermaid/aquatic designed paper and layer the first sections over a design and trace around it.
- Repeat this step with the next sections and different designs, sticking each traced paper on to the foam board.
- They are now ready to be placed into the outside of the cutout you have saved, to piece the puzzle together and turn back into a fish!
