Mom Puts Kids' Cleaning Habits To The Test By Hiding $5 Under Piece Of Trash

Encouraging children to clean is no mean feat. With so many other fun activities on offer, especially in this age of technology, they have a knack for doing just about anything else - no matter how much their parents nag them.

One mom, however, decided that enough was enough and came up with a clever ploy to encourage her kids to finally clean up. She hid $5 under a piece of trash - hoping to reward whoever was conscientious enough to clean it up.

The Texan mom, Miranda Crimbring, took to Facebook to share the challenge which she dubbed "who will pick up the random piece of trash that they KNOW isn't supposed to be there" and, alongside the original post, she wrote that the trash had been lying on the floor for a whopping 48 hours.

Yeah, I have to admit, those kids are lazy and then some!

"Between the kids AND the husband, and MULTIPLE trips in and out of the bathroom, this little piece of heaven may just be in it for the long haul!" she wrote on the status that has now received over 400,000 engagements and counting.

Then, on day two of the challenge, there appeared to be some activity - although the paper was still on the floor.

"Checked the bathroom after the kids brushed their teeth. Paper is still there, though it looks like somebody may have kicked it?" she wrote.

"UPDATE: They are brushing their teeth. As you can see, we're still going strong, folks!!" Miranda continued.

Then, later that night, she voiced her frustration once again, writing, "But seriously, just do the right thing. Am I right?!"

But, after three days of patiently waiting, Miranda finally revealed that the money had been found - and not because a member of her extremely lazy family had been willing to pick up the trash...

"BREAKING: The paper has been PICKED UP!! My daughter threw her dirty clothes on top of it before getting in the tub.. when she went to grab them afterwards, it flipped money side up and kind of slid across the floor. She gasped and then shrieked in surprise saying 'Oh my gosh, this was under there… five dollars!'" Miranda revealed.

But instead of binning the trash, even an unexpected five dollars wasn't enough to inspire Miranda's daughter to dispose of it properly, and she simply moved it from the floor to the bathroom counter instead.

Miranda concluded the now viral Facebook post by writing, "Needless to say, we had a nice long family talk afterward. I suppose only time will tell if things play out any differently in the future."

While all the evidence suggests that this lot are a lost cause, we hope for Miranda's sake that this stunt inspires them to change their ways for the better!
