One of the biggest phenomenons to sweep the younger generation in recent years is slime. Gooey, icky, and a lot of fun to mold and play with, if you've got a kid under the age of eight, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

But the brilliance of slime goes beyond being a fun toy for kids. For us grownups, it's the cleaning tool we didn't know we needed, and its stickiness can be easily used to clean a variety of hard-to-reach spots that would otherwise become a breeding ground for dust and dirt bunnies.

But perhaps best of all is the fact that slime is a cleaning tool that you can easily make at home (unless your little monsters are willing to give you some of theirs). Using the following recipe, you can make it in around five minutes.

All you need are the following "ingredients":

  • 5 ounces of Elmer's liquid glue
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • tbsp of Borax detergent

Once you've got what you need, the first step to making cleaning slime is pouring the water and glue into a bowl. Only then can you add the boiling water and the Borax detergent, which will create the chemical reaction needed to make the slime. Just be sure to slowly stir the mixture while this is happening!

If you want to color your slime, simply add the appropriate food coloring to the mixture.

Note: the slime won't form instantly, and it will typically take around a minute before it starts to take shape.

Pictured above is one of the many hard-to-reach places that slime can be used to clean: the inside of your car.

Another place which is notorious for gathering dirt is the humble keyboard. Even with the best will in the world, it's inevitable that a few crumbles will get stuck between your keys, which can leave a fairly new computer looking worse for wear.

Luckily, slime is the perfect tool for getting rid of this dirt without damaging your keyboard. As the picture below shows, it will be left looking virtually like new - no matter how bad the damage is.

So, what are you waiting for? It's time to level up your cleaning game with slime!
