Mom Cancels Baby Shower After Guests Ridicule Her Baby's Unique Name

Choosing your child's name is an incredibly personal experience. It's also an immense challenge for numerous reasons. Firstly, having never met your child, it's hard to understand their individual characteristics and thus, choosing a name which may not suit their personality can feel extremely counterproductive. Secondly, you need to blend your taste with your partner's, to ensure that your baby has a name you both love - an element of parenting that can push the most committed couples to the brink. Lastly, you need to be sure your child's name will be practical and appropriate FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE.

Having been a kid yourself, you know how cruel children can be in the playground and how easy it is to put a name into a humiliating rhyme. Fortunately, my name is 'Olivia', and the best kids at school could do was say I came from 'Bolivia'. I didn't...

There are many factors to consider when choosing your child's name. Of course, you should never be too influenced by what other people think, as each individual has an acquired personal taste that won't necessarily match yours.

However, it can be practically impossible not to feel relatively conflicted after someone who you value rejects an idea you're passionate about - and that is never more applicable than with your baby's name.

So, when one mom decided to cancel her baby shower after she discovered that her friends and family disliked the name she'd chosen for her child, it was easy to relate. No doubt she felt extremely hurt by their dislike of a name she'd lovingly selected.

However, rather than cancel the baby shower and ignore the comments being made, the mom decided to take extreme measures.

Taking to a Facebook group dedicated to the event, the mom raged at her guests for their lack of support. "How can you judge an unborn child??" she asks, furiously.

Concluding her explosive rant, the mom signs off with an expletive-filled farewell. "You won't get to be a part of my baby's life and it's all because you had to judge him," she writes, evidently incensed.

The post went viral on Reddit, where users were rather unapologetic with the mother-to-be's plight.

It's hard to dispute that the child will certainly experience some comments at school should the mother commit to the full name of Squire Sebastian Senator.

Speaking personally, I'd probably insist on my friends calling me 'Seb' in an attempt to distance myself from the name my mom so lovingly gave me.

Shockingly, it would appear that Squire Sebastian Senator may not be the most outrageous name to be given to a child in 2019. According to BabyCenter, the New Year will see a surge in plant-based names as parents project their vegan values onto their children. So expect names like 'Kale' and 'Rosemary' to be appearing in classrooms in the next few years.

In addition, the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's first child is expected to influence baby names dramatically in 2019. This prediction comes after the name Louis saw a 17% spike in popularity after the birth of Prince William and Kate Middleton's third child, Prince Louis.

However, it is not clear whether The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will opt for a traditional name in keeping with the Royal Family's history, or whether Meghan will continue to make her own rules and name the child something unique and modern.

Maybe she'll take inspiration from her friend Victoria Beckham who gave her brood of four alternative names that sent the press into hysterics at the time. However, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper are having the last laugh as they all thrive with their quirky names.

Only time will tell. Let's just hope Meghan doesn't feel the need to send a Facebook message to her friends and family like this mom had to - the Queen certainly wouldn't approve!
