Mother Sparks Backlash With Outrageous List Of Requirements For Potential Babysitter

It goes without saying but parents always want the absolute best for their kids. They want the best for their health, happiness, and safety, and will go to great lengths to ensure they achieve just that. And in some circumstances, parents will have to enlist the support of an outside party to help them take care of their little ones. Yes, these days parents are on a very tight schedule, have full-time careers and as a result, decide to find themselves a babysitter to help them out with the most important item on their schedule: the children.

But entrusting your little ones to a babysitter is not something that parents take lightly. Children are incredibly vulnerable and impressionable and so many mothers and fathers are quite rightly concerned about the prospect of placing them in the wrong hands.

But while it makes absolute sense to be concerned about finding the right person to supervise your children and safeguard their welfare in your absence, some parents definitely take it way too far.

And speaking of taking things too far: recently one very no-nonsense mother posted a lengthy list of requirements for a babysitter and it has received quite a bit of backlash. Indeed, the list has now gone viral for the very detailed and somewhat dictatorial approach she took to find one.

The mother-of-three posted a list of demands to be strictly adhered to by the successful applicant for the $10-an-hour role. The outrageously high-maintenance list includes everything from being a Trump fan to being willing to pay for snacks for the kids: an infant, a three-year-old and a five-year-old.

The post was originally posted to Facebook by the unnamed mom who is presumably based in the States. It was later shared on the Subreddit "Choosing Beggars" where it was flooded with hundreds of comments from people who were shocked by the mom's unnecessarily high expectations.

Written above the ad, she explained that she was "Looking for a babysitter in the area. PM me if you're interested. Here are my requirements." It was from there that she delved into her 14 very specific requirements of the prospective babysitter.

There were also some pretty standard requirements including a BA degree in childcare, three references with a phone number, and full-time availability including weekends.

She also states that the preferred candidate will have a driving licence, a car and be a native English speaker with CPR training.

Here is the list in full:

  1. Have a bachelors degree in childcare OR nine years of relevant babysitting experience.
  2. 3 good references with phone numbers.
  3. Full-time availability inc. weekends.
  4. Your own car and driving license.
  5. Native English speaking and a preferred second language to teach my children.
  6. CPR certified. Ideally a CNA license.
  7. ‘NO history of traffic tickets and NO problems with the law (I will be running your name thru databases).
  8. No tattoos. No drugs. No alcohol. No sketchy social media behaviour AND/OR public pictures.
  9. MUST be okay with my two pit bulls.
  10. MUST be okay with emergency last minute calls.
  11. Perfect Attendance 100% required.
  12. Willing to pay for some snacks.
  13. Will love to work with an infant, 3 yr old, and 5 yr old.
  14. Ideally will be a Trump fan.

When a screenshot of the post was shared on Reddit, hundreds of users weighed in with their thoughts on the brazen 14-point list.

One person replied to the post, writing: "I thought she meant SHE'D be willing to pay for the babysitter snacks. I was like well I guess that's nice, then I realised she meant the babysitters would be paying for the snacks. Lovely."

"9 years experience is very specific!! Also, would be worried about someone who had the degree and/or experience but was still willing to graft for $10 an hour', wrote one Reddit user."

Another added: "I’ve seen these ads before in NYC but they’ll pay you $60k-80k per year and other perks. Essentially you get paid to raise someone else’s kids."

"A friend of mine did this and one of the requirements was also having a degree at an Ivy League (she did). She was able to stay at their summer home whenever and got to go to Paris Fashion Week. This lady is nuts though."

"For $10/hr I will come over to watch your TV and eat your snacks. Expect to return to alive children... that's it," wrote another user.

Another concerned Reddit user wrote: "No problems with the law but she's committing tax fraud. Ok then."

What do you guys think? Would you be willing to put up these rather excessive requirements for just $10 an hour?
