Jar of Origami Stars

Credit: Jungle Creations

You will need:

  • Strips of coloured paper
  • Nimble fingers
  • Jar

Method:

  1. Take a strip of coloured paper, roughly 1cm wide by 30cm long is good to start with but you can do lots of different thicknesses and lengths if you want, just make sure when you go wider that you make your paper longer too.
  2. Tie a knot in one end of the paper, this may sound crazy but it is actually a knot, just a flat one. Loop it round and put the shortest end through, and then pull it tight enough that it creates a flat, neat pentagon.
  3. Tuck in the excess short bit of paper into one of the folds of the pentagon.
  4. Wrap the longer section around the pentagon, following where the paper wants to be wrapped, it will naturally wind itself around.
  5. Tuck in the remainder, if it too long to tuck in then trim it with scissors.
  6. Push in the sides of the pentagon one by one till it looks like a little star!

Top tip- A cute activity to do with the kids is writing your wishes on the strips of paper before you make them into stars and storing them in a jar; a cute and personal addition to a room.

Harry Potter origami envelope

You will need:

  • Square paper
  • Pens
  • Glue

Method:

  1. Fold the paper in half diagonally and then in half again. Open this up so it is a triangle.
  2. Fold in one side to just over the middle point, and then fold in the other side so it overlaps the other.
  3. Fold back the top layer about 2cm, put your finger inside this section and flatten it so it becomes a square, this is what holds your envelope closed.
  4. Fold down the top section like an envelope flap, and fit it’s corner into the little square you made.
  5. Add detail such as a little drawn wax seal on the square.
  6. You can now write your recipients details on the front and a lovely message on the inside!
  7. All you need now is a trusty owl to deliver it!

You will need:

  • 6” Origami paper
  • Pens

Method:

  1. Fold the paper in half and then the other way to create a cross on the paper.
  2. Fold all the corners into the middle
  3. Fold one of the sides to the middle to create a diagonal fold, and then the other side.
  4. Fold the remaining corner up, it should now look like a long triangle.
  5. Having the longest point facing away from you, fold the two shorter points in, using the bottom edge as a guide.
  6. Fold this square section to meet where the triangular section starts then fold back on itself.
  7. Finally fold the tip of the triangular section down and flip over. You have the basis of your jumping frog!
  8. Decorate and add googly eyes.
  9. To get your frog jumping, press down on the back section of the frog and when you release and he will jump forward!
